8Mb Broadband
We’ve all heard the term broadband for years now, but what does that even mean? The term broadband came into being when the world of internet switched from dial-up—or narrowband—to a faster internet connection capacity. The designation between narrow and broad refers to the bandwidth. Bandwidth describes the amount of data able to be transferred over the connection. Thus, a “broad” bandwidth would have greater capacity than a “narrow” bandwidth. A synonymous term for broadband is “high speed.”
The speed of a broadband connection is often expressed in Mb. We’ve seen broadband internet advertised at 4 Mb and 8Mb Broadband. That refers to the download speed available on the broadband connection. The Mb is for MegaByte, which is the unit of measure for files. How fast is 8Mb? 8Mb per second means 1 MB of a file downloaded per second.
Cable Internet is considered broadband, or high speed internet. 8MB Broadband is available through Cable Internet. DSL internet, on the other hand, ranges from 128 Kbps to 3 MB. DSL speeds are often expressed in two numbers. For example, DSL often advertises 1.5 Mbps/128 Kbps. The first number expresses the download speed and the second number represents the speed for uploads. Speeds will vary greatly depending on where are and which company is providing service. Cable Internet download and upload speeds tend to be consistent since Cable Internet is regulated and standardized.
Cable Internet is well known as the highest speed internet speeds available. Cable Internet 8Mb Broadband connections are standard and can be expected from any number of companies across the company.
